ICOMOS Netherlands - Membership

Membership of ICOMOS is open to all persons who have a professional interest in in the broad field of cultural heritage conservation, or who are involved or interested in these fields. "Actively engaged in the conservation of monuments, groups of buildings or sites" as the official wording is, means that both specialists of the scientific, technical or administrative staff of some kind of conservation service and decision-makers can take part.

Young professionals
Specially invited for membership are young professionals: students in restoration, conservation, archaeology, heritage management and directly related fields. They are regarded as the next generation in charge of the management of our heritage. Senoir members are happy to guide, help and instruct these young colleagues in the international network of ICOMOS. Up to 30 years, members are granted 50% reduction of the annual fee.

Members of ICOMOS-NL are automatically members of ICOMOS International. All members receive the ICOMOS International newsletter and are entitled to use the ICOMOS Documentation Centre in Paris.

Application
Application for membership is made through one of the national committees. In the case you are a Dutch citizen or working within the Netherlands,  you are invited to contact the Dutch bureau for an application form, which include an questionnaire on your professional backgrounds. By knowing your training and skills, ICOMOS could eventually call on you in case of specific needs for international advise, monitoring or emergency help.

Annual fee
The annual fee for individual membership is € 82,50, each year increasing by ± 3% in order to meet the increase of general costs and inflation. About half of this amount is paid by ICOMOS-NL to the international secretariat as a contribution to sustain the international network and to make it possible for members in less rich countries to participate.

ICOMOS card
Each member receives an ICOMOS-card as proof of his membership of the international professional network. Museums and heritage sites normally give free entree to members, as a generosity to fellow-professionals. However, this is not a right members are entitled to claim.
This functioning as a worldwide museum card is comparable to the ICOMOS-card, the membership card of the International Council of Museums. Especially in the case of large, national museum, members can escape form the long lines in front of the ticket-box and show their card directly to the personnel at the door.
